Position Overview
Responsible for developing driving skills, instructional programs for collision avoidance, defensive driving, and various other programs to ensure that all operators drive with a high level of skill and safety. You will instruct and demonstrate techniques, develop exercises and tests, ensure safety procedures are strictly adhered to and conduct remedial or corrective school bus driver training and evaluation.
Essential Job Function
- Oversee the “Behind-the-Wheel Training as outlined in the Training Action Plan for all newly hired school bus operators
- Conduct classroom training and behind the wheel training as required
- Conduct safety meetings
- Conduct vehicle training for candidates requiring driver license upgrading
- Facilitate written tests for license renewals
- Conduct driver evaluations of perspective employees
- Ensure that all Accidents/Incidents are immediately reported to management/insurance
- Maintain and update training records
Requirements
- P.R.I.D.E. Certificate– PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTOR IN DRIVER EDUCATION
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- A valid license to conduct driver examinations as issued by the MTO
- Clean driving record and BZ license
- Excellent understanding of practical experience with adult education is ideal
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Working knowledge of the Health & Safety Act and appropriate regulations
- At least 5 years' experience in transportation industry
- MTO signing authority under recognized authority
Safety Management
- Demonstrates capability to prevent personal and vehicular accidents through the development and implementation of a comprehensive safety and training program
- Conducts training and on-going evaluation for employees in both operations and maintenance
Operations Management
- Demonstrates capability to effectively function in a multi-faceted operation
- Performing safety and operations as well as administrative functions
- Recognizes and an understanding of Miller Transit Limited business integration
- Recognizes and understands methods to improve operational efficiencies
- Demonstrates understanding and responsibility of provincial compliance regulations
- Understands and monitors MTO compliance
- Demonstrates ability to efferently handle required paperwork including working knowledge of Microsoft suite of office products
